Is there a Doctor in the House?

“One’s life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, and compassion,” said Simone de Beauvoir so beautifully.

Many photographers wanted to contribute to our book but were afraid of the authorities, surroundings, and all other prejudices in the world, even in Cairo, but then we reached out to Yahya Diwer, a talented photographer we found by chance, and were certain he’d also say, “I would really love to, but…” when instead he immediately replied, “Yes, I’d love to!”

Yahya started sending us amazing pictures he took for us especially – people and hummus in streets and markets, Ta’amiya made of fava beans, and kids carrying heaps of pitas, riding around on their bikes from place to place – with these pictures and a new friend, we began our journey, and later also found out he’s a medical doctor, serving as a gynecologist and Vice General Manager of one of Cairo’s biggest hospitals!

So here is our photographer Dr. Yahya Diwer, a gynecologist, a dreamer, a true friend, in Cairo, our first stop on this journey that begins in the back alleys of Cairo’s market, a book that is a journey between cities, friends, and dreams.
