Met by hummus, united with love.

his is Dr. Yahya Diwer with his E.R. team in one of Cairo’s top hospitals, getting ready to blast COVID-19. We texted Yahya just yesterday to check how he’s doing these days, and he immediately sent us back these images. Like many medical professionals, he’s at the frontline. He is our hero.
We met Yahya ‘On the Hummus Route’. Many photographers wanted to collaborate with us but were afraid of their authorities, surroundings, and all of these other prejudices that exist in the world, even in Cairo. We then reached out to Yahya, a talented photographer who we found by pure luck, certain he’d also say, “I would really love to, but…”, when instead he immediately replied, “Yes, I’d love to join!”
He then began sending us amazing pictures he snapped especially – of people and hummus in busy marketplaces or on-route in the steaming streets, of Ta’amiya falafel balls made from fava beans, and of kids carrying around heaps of pitas, riding their bikes from place to place.
Geared with these inspiring images and a brand new friend, we set off on our journey that starts in this ancient hummus hub that is Cairo. Only much later did we discover that Yaya is also a medical doctor, serving as the Deputy General Manager of one of Cairo’s biggest hospitals!
So here is our photographer Dr. Yahya Diwer, a doctor, a dreamer, a true friend, in Cairo, who shares with us our vision of a new social order, and who also believes that kindness is contagious and now is just the right time to spread it around the most.
We met by hummus, and are united by love. One love, no borders. Join us.
